"Cherries"
Still life are show pieces for artists. They're a chance for painters to show off and pit their work against follow artists. When visiting museums throughout Europe, I saw dozens of still lifes that depicted the same scene: pealed oranges, pearls, flowers, meat, etc. It was as if the painters were saying, "Check out my stuff. You know it's better than his."

The effects of light are always exciting to paint. This painting, however, has one flaw that always seems to bug me: the stem of the wine glass to the left is off-centered.
