"The Death of Marat"
My studio, i.e., a small corner in the basement.
A large piece of drywall was the backing for J.L. David's, "The Death of Marat." A French revolutionary, Marat was stabbed to death while taking a bath. The subject may be a little creepy, but the story is interesting and Marat was a good man.

Portrait Practice
It's amazing how different people can look with a few tiny brush strokes.
Painting a friend's little girl
In order to fine tune the skin color, cheek bones, chin, etc., I had to print two photos. The darker print has more shadowing.

Cole after a long walk through the Utah desert.
"Portrait of Cole"
Portrait of Cole, my son. My wife thinks that the painting of the painting (over Cole's right shoulder) distracts from the main subject. I thought it was cool.
"Cole"
I took this picture of Cole looking out the kitchen window. I thought it was a neat shot, so I painted it. I confess, the picture of the painting is less attractive. This is what happens when you try to take a photo (while standing on a chair) of an object high on the wall.

"Portrait of Sarah"
Some paintings are quick, others take time. I almost gave up on this one. Six months, on and off, it took me.

"Lady With Veil"
I took a picture of this painting when I started it about a week ago. I was planning on photographing the steps of the process and placing it on my "Works in Progress" page. I soon gave up on the idea for two reasons: I had to keep starting over and it would have taken too many rolls of film.
"Lady With Veil"
Framed with gold trim.
"Lady With Veil"
Here's a better shot of the whole frame. At first, I painted the outside a brown color. I didn't like it so I repainted it all the same color. I was leaning towards making it gold, to match the inside trim.
"Steven"
I enjoy these types of paintings. The expression on Steve's face and the extended hand are fun to paint. His left hand and eye color were a bit tricky, but I think it's pretty darn close.
